Therapy dogs bring emotional support to various settings including schools, care homes and hospitals. Dogs can help reduce stress and anxiety, encourage social interaction, and provide a sense of companionship to those in need. You would be taking your dog into these environments to give back and share the doggo love!
1) Pre-assessment (optional)
If your dog is under 18 months old or you're unsure if your dog is suitable for therapy work, you can undertake a pre-assessment. This is a 60-minute session where I'll observe your dog and advise you whether I think your dog is happy and suitable.
2) Therapy Dog Training UK Workshops
You'll complete 2 fantastic online workshops with TDTUK. These will include training explainer videos and detailed information on the legalities of therapy dog work.
3) Temperament assessment
You'll then have a 60-minute in person assessment with me where I assess your dog's temperament. I'll be looking out for signs of anxiety, how your dog responds to sudden noises or touch and their training ability. You may have some training to work on before your final assessment.
4) Final assessment 🎓
If successful in the temperament assessment, you'll then enrol for your final assessment where I'll be looking at both the practical training and temperament of your dog. Successful completion of this stage results in your dog receiving official Therapy Dog UK certification!
As a Trusted Trainer and Assessor for Therapy Dog Training UK, I am committed to guiding you and your dog through each step of the certification process. My approach emphasises positive reinforcement and the well-being of your dog, ensuring a rewarding experience for both of you.
If you're interested in training your dog to become a certified therapy dog, or if you have any questions about the process, feel free to reach out. Let's work together to make a positive impact in our community!
